Therapists are not one size fits all, just like a pair of jeans, do not give up on the process over one pair not fitting just right.

Therapy is a hard process to begin with, add looking for a person to trust with all your deep dark secrets, well that is a recipe for overwhelming anxiety. I am here to tell you, that feeling of anxiety is 100% normal, that feeling of being uncomfortable and vulnerable is the key to creating progress and change in your life.

Therapy is what you want it to be, it can be Freudian, with "how does that make you feel", or it can be as relaxed and causal as you make it.

Each therapist has a different style and way they will approach you, I always suggest clients look at psychologytoday.com as a great reference to finding the right therapist for you. Even after searching on the site, you still may meet and feel you are not a good fit, which is 100% okay. I will urge you to give your therapist 3 to 4 sessions, to feel them out. After one session you may leave feeling uncomfortable, and that should not be a sign to never return to therapy, but instead, that uncomfortable feeling is a cue. It is a cue that you are heading in the right direction of growth and healing. If we never allowed our selves to feel uncomfortable, we would never change behaviors and remain stuck in the same unhealthy patterns that brought us to therapy in the first place.

Push past the uncomfortable into your truest potential.

Therapists Role

People at times get confused on the exact role of what a therapist is here for. A therapist is here to walk along side of the person as they work on healing themselves. Therapist are here to create room for the person to push through the uncomfortable and hurt feelings to move into healing and happiness. Therapists do not have magic wands, they do not always have all the right answers, but they are here to feel the good feeling as well as the bad feeling along side you. Therapists, guide, encourage and support you durning the journey you have set out on. You have the tools, and strength within yourself to become healthier and balanced, therapist are your guiding lights to finding your inner strength and harnessing your own power.
