Self esteem is one of my favorite areas to work in. This is because I love watching people start to blossom and find their inner strength and self worth.
Society takes so much joy in robbing us of our self-worth. Insisting we need x,y,z product to enhance our lives. When in reality, if we started to just love ourselves we would be a happier people as a whole.
I always start with the question of “what do you bring to the table?” This is incredibly scary to answer for my clients. We have all been taught at a young age that boasting about ones self is considered a negative trait. So, when asked, what do you offer, we instantly feel as though we cannot answer. Understanding your worth and what you deserve as well as what you offer is one of the most freeing steps of therapy in my office.
We discover you cannot look to others for your happiness. No one besides You is in charge of how you feel and you are exceptionally unique, and bring many great qualities to the table.
It is okay to unsubscribe to people in real life. Your self worth and health is more important then allowing negativity to consume your mind.
How can we take the controls back on how we view ourselves?
I always suggest a few areas to start with: taking an inventory of those around them, and how you feel while you are spending time with these people. If you do not feel a positive interaction or if you feel inadequate after leaving these interactions, start to think of ways you can shift those interactions. I also suggest looking into podcasts that spark happiness and joy, and promote healthy and real lifestyles { one of my favorites is The Grind and Be Grateful podcast from Marie Wold}. I find when you are ingesting positive information regarding self image, healthy habits and good conversation it helps your brain to shift to seeing the world much brighter than previously.
I would love to challenge you to think about..what do you bring to this “table?"
